Dot NAME Domains

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME generic domain extension is the single TLD intended for personal web pages only. These domains can consist of personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other labels people are famous by. At the beginning, only 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you wanted to buy john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already purchased 3rd-level domain names remained online.
